Some women are afraid to get a pixie cut, because they fear it might make them look or feel less “feminine.”
I know I’ve been there before…
Even during my best pixie hair days, I often feel the need to wear a dress or put on gobs of eyeliner and mascara to avoid looking like a teenage boy.
But a quick look at the photos on this site and on our Instagram feed proves that you can look feminine with short hair. In fact, as stated in one famous quote:
If you’re thinking about getting a pixie cut, but are hesitant because you fear it’ll make you appear or feel less feminine, simply Google “celebrity pixie cuts.” A few glances as Shailene Woodley, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Jennifer Lawrence are sure to change your mind…
But if that’s not enough, here are 5 tips on how you can make sure your boyish haircut still looks feminine—on the daily—with little-to-no effort.
Tip #1: Learn to nail the “no-makeup makeup” look. I found this tutorial online today right before putting on my makeup and decided to try it. (Good timing, eh?) It’s very minimal (a.k.a. effortless), only takes a few minutes, and gives you a natural feminine flush that stays with you all day. No wonder career girls love it. If you need to be out of the house in 30 minutes or less and don’t have time to paint your face like a geisha, give these genius tricks a try. I think it worked pretty well for me—do you agree?
Tip #2: Get a razor cut. When it comes to a pixie, avoid blunt tresses. Ask your stylist to razor cut it for a piece-y look. You’ll wake up with a sexy bedhead that’s quick and easy to style with just a dime-sized amount of waxy pomade. (Photo above: case in point.)
Tip #3: Dress the part. If your hair makes you feel like a boy, wear a dress. If you’re concerned about comfort, you can always throw on some Chuck Taylors.
Tip #4: Accessorize. Earrings, headbands and head scarves are staples in any pixie’s arsenal. They can do wonders for your look and your confidence.
Tip #5: When all else fails, embrace the boyfriend trend. It is trending right now, after all. Throw on some boyfriend jeans, paired with high heels and stud earrings, and welcome your newfound boyish charm as though it totally happened on purpose.
If it looks intentional, you’ll probably even get compliments—and be the envy of the long-haired diva standing next to you in the checkout line…
