The time has come at last! You’ve gathered your best girlfriends and you’re finally casting off on that Euro trip you’ve been planning for months. From Porto to Barcelona or maybe even New Jersey to South Beach, get ready for some amazing girls to invade your beaches!
Whoever’s going on a road trip, they know that, for the trip to be successful, there are a few essentials that need to find their way into the basic luggage. Oftentimes, most of us get way too excited to even think about those essentials and then spend most of the time on the road either looking for a store to buy things we failed to bring or stress out over not bringing all the needed stuff with us.
To save you from such misfortune, we’ve put together a list of the basics all girls should have with them when they are embarking on an adventurous road trip.
Here we go:
Medicine and hygiene kit
No matter where you’re going or how long you’re planning on staying, bringing your emergency medicine and hygiene kit is one of the first things you should pack. Unless you’re traveling to deserts of Sahara where there are no pharmacies or stores around, chances are you’ll be able to find medicine you need, but we wouldn’t risk it. Include allergy shots, band-aids, anti-bacterial creams, anti-insect gels, aspirin, gauze, medical alcohol, cotton balls, cotton swabs, as well as anything else you may feel should be in your medicine kit.
As for hygiene and beauty – bring things you normally use and can’t go a day without: facial pads, tampons, a bar of soap, shower gel, and shampoo, a tooth brush, tooth paste and floss, makeup remover, and sunscreen. Naturally, if there are some other things you need, bring them, too.
TIP: Don’t overpack your medicine and hygiene kit just for preventive measures. Bring things you know you’ll need (or suppose you might – like insect repellent or aspirin).
Chargers and gadgets
You don’t necessarily have to be a tech girl to depend on your chargers and gadgets. Truth is, the world we live in is unimaginable without our phones, cameras, mobile chargers, laptops, tablets and whatnot. When you think about it – it would be such a shame not to be able to snap a cute photo at the beach in Porto, an inspiring frame in front of the Casa Batlló in Barcelona, or snap a selfie with the gals during your night out, drinking cocktails in South Beach. You don’t want to rely on mental pictures only, you know?
What most people don’t get is that going on a road trip doesn’t mean going to Paris Fashion Week, so they often pack things that are neither comfortable nor necessary. Instead of packing bags of clothes you’ll only be avoiding during the trip, and reaching for things you can actually move around in, pack those comfy items from the get go. Being comfortable in what you wear doesn’t mean dropping your style – it only means being smart with your clothing choices. Light material maxi dresses and loose bell pants in natural materials, cute embellishments, interesting patterns, graphic prints, a lot of cotton and linen, and generally pieces your skin can breathe in. Also, when you are stopping for a coffee or a dining break during the night, find ways to incorporate a reflective clothing tape into each garment so that you remain on the safe side. You never know with those reckless drivers! As for the tape, they come in various colors so you don’t have to worry about your outfit losing its cool.
TIP: No need for high heels, platforms and pumps. Going on a road trip is really all about having fun and being comfortable doing it, so pack your favorite ballet flats, gladiator sandals, sneakers or those cute little espadrilles you haven’t worn in months.
